Why won't my Tetra Whisper 30-60 gallon heater heat my 50 gallon tank?

Buy a larger, adjustable heater. Could be your heater is malfunctioning, or could just be too small. The ratings on the packages are the maximums, not the optimal. Go up a size and see if that solves the problem. Good luck!
