I am having trouble getting ims from a friend and she is having the same troubles getting ims from me?

we send im's to each other but she does not get mine and i do not get hers and there is no offline message from each other so we both ume we are not getting any from each other but a friend of ours tells us that we both are sending them any help that u can give will be greatly apprecitaed thanks
